    The FSSAI license is premise-based. With a single FSSAI license, you can conduct all kinds of food business activities at the same location

    Suppose the FBO wishes to obtain the details of an offline license/registration. In that case, they can approach the Designated Officer [Licensing Authority] or Registering Authority of that area, who will enter the details into the FoSCoS portal. Whenever necessary, the license/registration can be renewed online.

    By email and SMS, the FoSCoS portal alerts FBOs about various compliances. It will be possible for FBOs to keep track of compliances attached to their licenses/registrations from time to time and avoid penalties.

    In the food industry, the petty food business operator (FBO) is anyone who manufactures or sells food items themselves. They can also be hawkers, itinerant vendors, temporary stall holders, and small-scale and cottage enterprises.A food business or tiny food business operator with an annual turnover up to ₹12 lakhs and/or
    • The maximum capacity of food production is 100 kg or litres per day, or
    • Milk procurement, handling, and collection are limited to 500 litres per day, or
    • Two large animals or ten small animals, or 50 poultry birds can be slaughtered per day.
    • To receive the FSSAI Registration Certificate, these FBOs must apply on the Food Safety Compliance form System or the Food Safety Connect app. A certificate is embedded with a QR code and has the image of FBO with a 14-digit Registration number starting with 2 (8xxxxxxxxxxxxx).

    If a food business operator's license or registration is suspended or cancelled, food business activities must cease immediately. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, it is illegal to conduct any food business activity on a suspended or cancelled license or registration.
